The story so far

Engagement! Posted 27th July 2011 by Emma

While on a fabulous weekend break at the beautiful Two Bridges Hotel in Dartmoor we spent an afternoon walking the moor and searching for letterboxes left on a trail in memory of a very dear and close family friend. For those of you that know nothing of "letterboxing" please do not confuse this activity with actually hunting through people's letterboxes, go look it up!

Anyway, I digress... some of the boxes were a little trickier to find than others (I guess the sheep may have been playing football with them), but it was box 5 that left me a little lost for words... We'd finally got back on route of actually being able to uncover the boxes, had left our little message and taken a copy of the stamp enclosed. I quite happily turned to pick the backpack (yes... a backpack!), and turned back round again to find Ed knelt down next to the hiding place of the letterbox with another little box held stretched out toward me... Yep, heart palpitations, cold sweats, a few "choice" words and me turning my back on him because I wasn't quite sure what to do with myself, left Ed wondering if he'd just made a massive mistake. NO WAY! He'd just completely poleaxed me... I'm never lost for words, no one ever knocks me sideways or surprises me... After calming myself down and regaining a regular breathing pattern I managed to stutter a few words "Yes!!! OMG, of course I'll Marry you!!!!". So, with a slightly too big but amazingly beautiful ring (Ed, you did a cracking job on choosing that!) we sat and chilled out (well he did, I was still a bit wobbly!!!) for a while, taking in the scenery and profusely trying to get enough signal to call the folks and break the news (which they all knew anyway!).

Many have asked whether I was surprised... at that very moment in time, er Yes! But, we had briefly discussed the thought of getting married one day. My four-year old daughter, Evie, being the biggest instigator had regular sat Ed down for a chat... "When are you going to marry my mummy?!?!?". I'm sure Ed will be able to fill you in on a couple of these instances.

I find it hard to put into words how deeply I feel about Ed, he's my world (along with Evie of course), he's my rock, he's everything, I love him with all my heart... he's my sole mate. I'm just a bit gutted that he managed to poleaxe me... just you wait Ed, I'll get you back (hear the competitive streak in me coming out....)!!!
